Starting Your Solar System

Your ultimate resource for solar energy, battery storage, and more!

How Solar Works?

1

Sunlight & Solar Panels

When photons from sunlight hit the negative-charged top layer of solar panels, electrons get knocked loose. Those free electrons are drawn into an electric field between the negative top layer and the positive-charged semiconducting silicon of a photovoltaic cell, creating a flow of Direct Current (DC) electricity.

Electrical Panels

To add solar energy converted to AC current to a home’s power supply, the main electrical panel gets some new wiring and circuit breakers. With the new solar power supply wired in, the electrical panel distributes the power to the other circuits throughout the home.

5

The Power Grid

Solar panels produce the most in the middle of the day when demand for electricity is low. For most homeowners, it makes sense to stay connected to the power grid so they can use it to store surplus solar power in the daytime and draw needed power at nighttime when their solar panels go inactive.

Power Invertors

Since AC power is the standard for household appliances, the DC current from solar panels needs to get converted before getting added to a home’s power supply. So a power inverter gets wired in to make that conversion and create a gateway between a solar array and a home’s main electrical panel.

4

Your Power Meter

Rewiring the power meter attached to your home to track electricity flowing both to and from the house provides the easiest solar energy storage resource. It’s a tracking and billing arrangement called ‘net metering’ and it enables utility companies to keep track of the power their customers add into the grid and then fairly credit their account for the power they produce or accurately bill them for the power they withdraw.

6

Mobile Controls

Maximizing the convenience and money savings of solar power depends on optimizing a home’s energy efficiency. The power inverters we install come with a mobile app giving our customers an intuitive control panel right on their phone to check energy production and adjust settings from anywhere. That way you keep your cost of solar at a minimum.

Great Savings & Return on Investment

Solar panels significantly reduce or eliminate electricity bills by generating free energy from sunlight. Over time, the initial investment in solar panels pays off through lower energy expenses and potential financial incentives such as tax credits or rebates.
